Hay Mate Concert proceeds deliver help to farmers in Tamworth

Rural Aid’s Buy a Bale program begins delivering hay from the proceeds from the Hay Mate Concert for the Farmers in Tamworth on December 11.

The Hay mate concert was a massive undertaking and featured John Farnham, Guy Sebastian, Daryl Braithwaite, The Veronicas, Andrew Farriss, Jon Stevens, Tim Wheatley, Adam Harvey, Aleyce Simmonds and Nat Conway, all of whom donated their services to raise funds for the farmers during this time of drought.

The Hay Mate concert was supported by the Nine Network who broadcast the event live across Australia raising over $2.8 million dollars. The Today show will also bring the massive hay giveaway to viewers on the day showing Australians their donations being delivered in one of the biggest hay drops in 2018.

The Hay Mate Concert organiser and promoter Glenn Wheatley will present CEO of Rural Aid Charles Alder the cheque from the concert fundraising effort in Tamworth as 255 farmers come to town to collect over 2000 bales of hay to keep their animals alive as the summer bears down. According to Glenn, “This hay drop, and others across NSW, will see the proceeds from Hay Mate delivering support when our farmers need it the most. This is a massive effort on the back of amazing donations from the Australian public.”

Hay Mate Concert proceeds deliver help to farmers in Tamworth

The Tamworth region drop will bring $800,000 in hay to the region. Hay Mate will also be providing gift cards and dog food to the families. Total value of this drop will be in excess of $1,000,000.

Further drops of hay are planned for the Milparinka/Tibooburra/Camerons Corner region (far North West NSW). More than $300,000 of hay and transport has started being delivered.

Deliveries have also started in the Peak Hill/Tomingley/Tullamore region (South West of Dubbo). More than $250,000 of hay and transport. started on the weekend and will continue for the next week.

Other regions to receive hay include Brewarrina, Coonamble and Narrabri.

As the long-term weather predictions talk of a very hot summer, the funds raised from Hay Mate is making sure as much assistance is delivered before Christmas with up to 1500 tonnes of hay being distributed each week across NSW, Qld and SA.

These hay drops, hamper giveaways and fuel cards will help make the Christmas period more bearable for our Aussie farmers. Many have struggled to afford the basics and this generosity will help many families and their towns get through.

“We’ve been able to buy large amounts of hay from South Australia and deliver to hundreds of farmers.”
Charles Alder said.

“Drought is decimating communities across Australia, but with programs like Buy a Bale, and more fundraisers like the Hay Mate Tamworth concert, we can all help these communities to make it out the other side,”

Glenn Wheatley added,’ Thank you to all who supported Hay Mate. Qantas, Toyota, Woolworth, Nine, News Corp and all the generous people from across Australia who donated, we are going to make a difference for the Farmers commencing now.

With two massive announcements already made for the RED HOT SUMMER TOUR in 2019, festival promoters have organised an incredible line-up for the highly anticipated Series Three. Headlined by the legendary John Farnham, with special guests Daryl Braithwaite, Jon Stevens, Vanessa Amorosi, Thirsty Merc and Dragon, these select shows were hand-picked for the final run of the 2019 festival. The special dates were by popular demand, after an incredible sell-out series with John Farnham in 2018 there simply just had to be more when the festival returned in 2019.

Promoter Duane McDonald says the team are looking forward to taking these three shows out on the road. “We had such an incredible response from audiences last season when John Farnham headlined,” he says. “We really wanted to put on a handful of special shows in 2019 and we are so excited about the line-up – this is what fantastic live music is all about. We will be returning to some of our favourite venues with this series of the tour and we look forward to sharing an unforgettable day of music with fans.”

The RED HOT SUMMER TOUR series featuring John Farnham in 2017 and 2018 sold-out and the 2019 run will no doubt do the same. Revered as one of the best male vocalists – by both fans and fellow musicians – he has had an incredibly versatile career. His 1986 album Whispering Jack was the first record to sell over a million copies in Australia and its chart topping single You’re The Voice cemented the honey toned solo artist as ‘the voice’ of the country. Over the next several years he released hit after hit, including Pressure Down, Reasons, A Touch of Paradise, Age of Reason, Two Strong Hearts, Angels, Talk of The Town, Chain Reaction, Burn For You, Have A Little Faith (In Us) and That’s Freedom to name a few. Audiences will have the chance to celebrate five decades of great music when John takes to the stage for these select shows in 2019.

A long-time supporter of the RED HOT SUMMER TOUR, Daryl Braithwaite always puts on an incredible performance – it’s why his return to the line-up is highly anticipated. He is one of the most recognisable voices in the Australian music scene, and with a diverse career that has spanned decades. Daryl’s consistency as a performer has never wavered, something that sees him performing regularly to packed crowds around the country. Starting his career in the 1970s as the frontman for Sherbet, Daryl was crowned King of Pop and the band produced 20 national Top 40 singles. In the 1980’s Daryl set out on his own solo career, releasing smash hit singles such as One Summer, As The Days Go By and Sugar Train to name a few. His anthemic version of The Horses is always a crowd- pleaser and a favourite for RED HOT SUMMER TOUR fans.

For lovers of great music, a concert experience with Jon Stevens is up there with the very best. From his Noiseworks days – and hits such as Welcome To The World, No Lies, Touch and Hot Chilli Woman – to fronting The Dead Daisies and INXS, he has made an indelible impact with his amazing vocals. Jon also has an incredible solo catalogue, the most recent of which Starlight saw him do a run of sold-out dates last year. His live shows are dynamic, high energy and will keep audiences on their feet. Music fans are in for a treat as Jon takes RED HOT SUMMER TOUR audiences through his repertoire in 2019.

It has been seven years since Vanessa Amorosi has performed as part of the RED HOT SUMMER TOUR and audiences are certainly in for a treat. Considered one of Australia’s most iconic female voices, the festival sees the soulful powerhouse performer return to her live roots. Her debut album The Power (2000) demonstrated Vanessa was a force to reckon with – it notched up six nominations at the ARIA awards and saw her sing at the Sydney Olympics. It was the breakthrough Top 10 hit Absolutely Everybody that made her a household name, it stayed in the charts for six months, went certified double platinum and charted in Europe. She continued to demonstrate her versatility as a soul, R&B and rock performer with albums Somewhere In The Real World (2008) and Hazardous (2009). She has sold over two million records and heads into 2019 with a renewed focus on music and live shows, kicking off with the RED HOT SUMMER TOUR.

It’s hard to believe it has been over 15 years since Thirsty Merc smashed onto the scene with his such as Someday Someday and In The Summertime. Lead singer Rai Thistlethwayte proved himself to be a world-class songwriter and the trio performed far and wide. Having recently celebrated their 15-year anniversary with a national tour, the return of Thirsty Merc on the festival circuit will be embraced by audiences. The band were last part of the RED HOT SUMMER TOUR in 2011 where audiences delighted in their performances.

When it comes to iconic bands, Dragon has a long history with Aussie music fans. Moving from New Zealand to Australia in the 1970s, the Kiwi-come-Aussie band made an indelible mark and their music captured the hearts of a generation. Songs like April Sun in Cuba, Are You Old Enough, Still In Love With You, Young Years and Rain became ingrained into the Australian psyche. They were an institution on Countdown. Fast forward more than 45 years and audiences still can’t get enough of Dragon – with Todd Hunter still on bass and fellow New Zealander Mark Williams on vocals, the reformation of Dragon has seen a whole new generation of music lovers introduced to their music and loving it.

The RED HOT SUMMER TOUR is always a sell-out series. The 2018 run saw many of the shows sell-out several months before and tickets are always coveted. Don’t miss out on tickets to the 2019 tour – these shows are what music memories are made of!

For the love of wildlife is an animal welfare and volunteer organisation working on banning the cruel industry of captive breeding.

Join Ambassador Collette Dinningan and the organisation on the 3rd of March at Bourke Street Mall. Bring your ivory and rhino horn items to #MelbourneCrush to show their only value is on a living animal.

My wife Jill and I have had the indescribable pleasure of seeing rhino on safari and watch elephants tenderly care for their young within a large herd. It’s impossible not to be left in awe. How could anyone want these animals killed for “trinkets”! It beggars belief that in this day and age, any trade in ivory and rhinoceros horn is still allowed, anywhere. We MUST cease the trade NOW. Please support #NoDomesticTrade. – John Farnham

Last night John Farnham closed the ARIA Awards, performing ‘You’re The Voice’ to celebrate the 30th anniversary of both the ARIAs and his classic album The Whispering Jack. At the first ARIAs in 1987, John won six awards including Best Male Artist, Album of the Year and Single of the Year.

Watch a video of his performance below:

Today John Farnham releases his new album Friends For Christmas with Olivia Newton-John. The album embodies a traditional Christmas sound whilst showcasing the ever impressive vocals of both artists.

As John explains, “I have always loved working with Olivia. To record a Christmas album seemed like the right, almost inevitable thing to do. I hope everyone enjoys listening to it as much as we loved recording it together”.

“It was such a joy singing these beautiful holiday songs with my favourite singer and good mate John Farnham,” said Olivia.  “The holidays are about family and friends and having this chance to sing these classics with John was pure fun from beginning to end!”

When John and Olivia’s Two Strong Hearts joint tour finished last year the two friends didn’t want the fun to end. That tour, which spawned a #1 album and DVD, lit a creative fire which led them to the studio to record new versions of their favourite Christmas classics as duets.

John Farnham has been announced as an inductee to The Age and Music Victoria Announce Hall of Fame for their 10th Anniversary, to be celebrated at one-off concert event in November!

First introduced in 2006, The Age Music Victoria Awards (formerly The Age EG Awards) are the largest publicly voted music awards in Australia and at a media launch held this morning at The Palais Theatre, Music Victoria’s CEO Patrick Donovan, and The Age’s Shortlist Editor Martin Boulton announced the ten legendary Victorian musicians and industry icons who will be celebrated at the event’s 10th Anniversary concert.

Unlike the annual Awards, the selection of the The Age Music Victoria Awards 10th Anniversary Hall of Fame inductees was made by a voting panel including former inductees, musicians and music professionals, all of whom had their work cut out for them in selecting just ten inductees from Victoria’s long and illustrious musical heritage. Eligibility required inductees to have been Victorian residents when they made a significant contribution to Victoria culture.
The one night only concert event on Friday, 20 November, 2015, will be hosted by RocKwiz’ Brian Nankervis with musical backing by the EG Allstars featuring Pete Luscombe (musical director), James Black, Bill McDonald and Ash Naylor.

The Age Music Victoria 10th Anniversary Hall of Fame inductees John Farnham (30 minute set) and Archie Roach will be joined on stage at The Palais Theatre by a few of their friends and fellow Victorian musical stars including Kate Ceberano, Brian Cadd, Normie Rowe, Colleen Hewett, Vika Bull, Angie Hart and Mark Seymour with more to be confirmed.

These inductees are the architects of Victorian music and we are privileged to have the opportunity to pay tribute to them all in this one never-to-be-repeated event,’’ said Music Victoria CEO Patrick Donovan.
Andrew Holden, Editor of The Age, added “The only way to celebrate this fantastic milestone is with 10 outstanding inductees, each one thoroughly deserving of the recognition that comes with being welcomed into the Age Music Victoria Hall of Fame. Congratulations to all our inductees.”

$5.00 from every ticket sold will be donated to the events charity partner, Support Act Limited, to help musicians in need.

Tickets for The Age Music Victoria 10th Anniversary Hall of Fame go on sale at 9.00am on Friday, 19 June, 2015 and are expected to sell FAST!

Following on from their incredible Two Strong Hearts Live Tour, comes the announcement of their new album – a collection of the magical moments from their tour.

With a 60-piece orchestra behind them, Farnham and Newton-John recently sold out houses around the country. With Chong Lim leading the orchestra, alongside Farnham’s core band and singers, audiences were treated to a thrilling series of gigs that saw each artist dig into their own personal songbook with stunning results.

Highlights on the album include Two Strong Hearts’, ‘Let Me Be There’, ‘Xanadu’, the Peter Allen penned I Honestly Love You’ and a sublime Tenterfield Saddler’, ‘Dare To Dream’ (first heard at the Sydney OLYMPICS 2000), ‘Somewhere Over The Rainbow’, Burn For You’ and the jazz/blues hybrid of Hit The Road Jack’ and Fever’.

“Olivia and I opened the show together,” explains John, “we finished the show together and there was lots of interaction in between. It’s terrific singing with Olivia.”

“It’s a perfect blend of songs,” continues Olivia. “The show just flowed so well. We do duets and sing parts of each other’s songs as well as our own. It was a wonderful experience.”

Throughout the album the hits keep coming. Hearing Farnham and Newton-John work through Youre The One That I Want’ and Summer Nights’ from the Grease soundtrack
is joyous, funny (thanks to JF’s build up to the high notes) and downright brilliant.

In the final furlong you’ll hear Hearts On Fire’, If Not For You’ and a re-working of John’s hit with Human Nature, Every Time You Cry’. Physical’ had every room the
pair played whilst on tour on their feet. Throw in a powerhouse Youre The Voice’ and a stunning cover of AC/DCs ‘It’s A Long Way To The Top (If You Wanna Rock And Roll)’, where the mix of rock n’ roll electricity and orchestra absolutely rocks, and you’ve got a night that will remain burned into the memory banks.

The album is out June 26, and available to preorder now at iTunes, Sanity and JB Hi-Fi.

NEVER let it be said John Farnham does not fully commit when it comes to singing Grease hits with Olivia Newton-John.

It was Farnsey, not ONJ, who donned the trademark leather pants for their joint tour, which charmed Rod Laver Arena last night.

And in a night which was full of extreme joy, the Grease songs upped the fun factor to 11.

Farnham fans disappointed by the interaction-free joint tour with Lionel Richie last year get double happiness this time around.

These long-time friends quite clearly love each other’s company and spend around half of the concert singing together. And it is wonderful each time.

Farnham steps in for Cliff Richard on ONJ’s Xanadu duet Suddenly and it’s better than the original.

Livvy subs in for all of Human Nature on Every Time You Cry and the song takes on a whole new dimension.

They turn his ballad Burn For You into a duet which brilliantly changes the dynamics and both lose themselves in the moment singing Somewhere Over the Rainbow and it’s a reminder how neither has lost any vocal power.

But it’s those Grease anthems that see the crowd finally stretch their legs — particularly Summer Nights. Farnham’s loving channelling his inner Danny Zucco so much he forgets a key lyric at one point — he’s one of the few artists whose audience actually applaud that. He even busts out a few dance moves.

As any joint tour should, they bring out the best in each other.

She’s there to clean things up when Farnsey’s working a bit blue (a saucy dad joke about not being able to get up), he’s there to loosen her up as he unexpectedly jumps up behind her after their sassy mashup of Fever and Hit the Road Jack.

When another dud dad joke sees Farnham lose his spot in their stunning interpretation of Peter Allen’s Tenterfield Saddler, Livvy quickly gets him back on track (as does his trusty teleprompter — he’s the first to make jokes about having too many words to remember).

Most importantly, you’re watching two people having immense fun on stage and it’s infectious.

There’s just enough time for them to sing separately to make you miss the interactions.

We don’t get to see Olivia sing live on stage in Australia enough, and you’re truly spoiled when she’s got a huge orchestra behind her breathing new life into classics like Magic, Xanadu, Have You Never Been Mellow, I Honestly Love You, Hopelessly Devoted to You and the underrated A Little More Love.

And the trimmed-down Farnham is in his element with his mighty band (and that orchestra) powering through choice album cuts (No One Comes Close, Love to Shine) and national treasures (That’s Freedom, Pressure Down, Playing to Win andAge of Reason).

The concert ends with three things you never expected to see. There’s John Farnham, still in his leather strides, grinding against Olivia Newton-John as he takes the dirtier lines in Physical. And Livvy shines with her a cappella kick off to the national anthem You’re the Voice.

It speaks volumes about the lack of ego of these two superstars that they turned arguably their biggest individual hits into duets. And they provided the once-in-a-lifetime moments this show promised on paper.

The third surprise? Seeing Olivia Newton-John singing Bon Scott’s words on the final duet, John Farnham’s favourite rock song of all time, AC/DC’s It’s a Long Way to The Top. You can see in his face he lives for singing that song — he has always had good taste in music.

Farnham’s role as the Pope of Australian pop continues with a string of fans (politely) rushing the stage to get their hand kissed by The Voice, which he impressively manages to do while using said voice.

Forget what happened last year, this three hour hitfest may well be the most enjoyable joint tour you’ll ever see on our shores.

The West Australian also enjoyed the evening at Sandalford, writing – Popular touring artists often struggle to strike a balance between rattling off their biggest hits night after night and testing out new material, but put two of the biggest hit makers of the past 40-odd years on one stage and the outcome is inevitable. The concert billed as “all the hits, all night long” was exactly that.
